Some Historical "highlights" of HRCU:

• Fr. Marion Ganey, S.J. introduced credit unions to Belize in 1943
• Fr. Henry Sutti, S.J. founded HRCU in May 1944
• HRCU came into existence with 3 ladies each saving $.25 cents
• Started as a parish credit union serving Holy Redeemer Parish
• Acquired its first building in 1959 moving away from the Catholic Presbytery
• Reached its first million in assets in 1969 - some 25 years and 4,970 members later
• Reached $100 million in assets on January 29th, 1999 with 31,364 members
• Reached $200 million in assets on January 28th, 2004 with 35,773 members

Governance:

HRCU is governed by the Credit Union Act, Chapter 314 of the Laws of Belize (Revised 2002) and is supervised by the Central Bank of Belize. Click Here to view Credit Union Act. HRCU is further supervised by its Supervisory Committee members elected annually at the AGM. In addition, the international accounting firm of Deloitte is contracted to conduct independent audits of the credit union's affairs.
